Let’s make this easy, colorful, and wholesome shakarkand chaat!

Ingredients

For Stir-Fried Sweet Potatoes

  • Sweet potato – 200 g
  • Oil – as needed
  • Chopped green chili – 1
  • Cumin seeds – ¼ tsp
  • Curry leaves – 1 sprig
  • Red chili powder – ¼ tsp
  • Sendha namak (rock salt) – to taste

For the Chaat Topping

  • Curd – 4 tbsp
  • Roasted fox nuts (makhana), peanuts, chopped cashews & raisins – as required
  • Farali green chutney – 2 tbsp
  • Farali dates chutney – 2 tbsp
  • Chopped raw mango – 1 tbsp
  • Chopped cucumber – 2 tbsp
  • Fresh pomegranate – 2 tbsp
  • Fresh coriander – chopped, to garnish

Method

Step 1 – Prepare the Sweet Potatoes

  1. Wash and peel the sweet potatoes. Cut them into medium-sized cubes.
  2. Heat some oil in a pan on medium flame.
  3. Once hot, add ¼ tsp cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  4. Immediately add the sweet potato cubes.
  5. Stir and sauté them continuously on medium heat.
  6. Add chopped green chili, curry leaves, red chili powder, and sendha namak.
  7. Cook until the sweet potatoes turn crispy and golden on the outside and soft on the inside. They should look similar to lightly fried jeera aloo — but healthier!

Step 2 –  Assemble the Chaat

  1. Transfer the crispy sweet potatoes to a serving plate.
  2. Add 3–4 tablespoons of curd on top (unsweetened).
  3. Sprinkle roasted makhana, peanuts, cashews, and raisins.
  4. Drizzle farali green chutney and farali dates chutney.
  5. Add chopped raw mango, cucumber, and fresh pomegranate.
  6. Finish with a generous sprinkle of chopped coriander leaves
