Cool and Healthy Ragi Milk for Summer

Nothing feels better than a cool and refreshing drink in the scorching summer heat! Ragi milk is not only a cooling beverage but also a powerhouse of nutrition. Rich in calcium, fiber, and iron, ragi helps strengthen bones and keeps the body energized. Let’s learn this simple and delicious recipe.

Ingredient

  • Ragi (finger millet) – 1 cup

  • Water – 3 cups

  • Jaggery (or dates) – ½ cup

  • Boiled sago (sabudana) – ¼ cup

  • Fox nuts (makhana) – ½ cup

  • Green cardamoms – 2

  • Small cinnamon stick – 1

  • Soaked almonds (peeled) – 12

  • Basil seeds (sabja seeds) – 2 tablespoons

  • Banana – 1

  • Poppy seeds (khus khus) – 1 tablespoon

Method

Step 1: Prepare the Ragi flour 

  1. Firstly wash the ragi thoroughly to remove any dirt.

  2. Now spread it on a cotton cloth and let it dry for about 15 minutes.

  3. Once dry, roast it on low heat for 10 minutes until it gives a nutty aroma.

  4. If using ragi flour, dry roast it instead for a few minutes.

  5. Let the roasted ragi cool and grind it into a fine powder using a blender.

Step 2: Make the Mixture

  1. Now take  a blender jar, add the roasted ragi powder.

  2. Next add ½ cup makhana, 12 soaked and peeled almonds, ½ cup jaggery, 2 green cardamoms, and a small piece of cinnamon stick.

  3. Now, add 1 banana, 1 tablespoon poppy seeds, and 2 cups of water.

  4. Blend everything into a smooth paste.

  5. Strain the mixture using a fine sieve or muslin cloth to remove any coarse particles.

Step 3: Prepare the Drink

  1. To the strained mixture, add ¼ cup boiled sago (sabudana), 2 tablespoons basil seeds, and ½ cup fox nuts (makhana).

  2. Add ice cubes and mix well for a refreshing touch.

Step 4: Serve

  1.  Now pour the cool ragi milk into a serving glass.

  2. Then, sprinkle some extra basil seeds on top for added texture.

  3. Finally, our healthy and delicious ragi milk is ready to refresh and energize you!

Tips:
